Have you checked out the new location of Ti Chen at The Saujana Hotel? It’s simply beautiful. It is now located in a standalone building facing the lake and the French windows/doors of the restaurant provide stunning views of the gorgeous gardens and lake. The visual feast is as sumptuous as the menu offerings, trust me.
The interior of the restaurant has been given an elegant makeover. There are now classy wood panellings framed by chic white French doors and windows. As a Chinese restaurant, there are also tasteful oriental touches in the decor, like the intricately-carved traditional wooden chairs at the entrance and oriental-themed wall coverings. For pre-meal drinks, there’s also a well-equipped bar.
With Chef Sam Lu and Chef Yau Kim Yew (Dim Sum Master) helming the kitchen, food at Ti Chen has just become more exciting, to say the least. Having tasted the creations of these two chefs elsewhere even before they joined Ti Chen, I was confident of getting some good eats here.
And with that, we headed to Ti Chen’s Weekend Dim Sum Brunch one bright Sunday morning. Chef Yau’s passion in dim sum making has stood him in good stead with more than 16 years of fine-tuning his craft. Chef Yau is also a multi-award winner in many culinary competitions, specialising in oriental cuisine. For the Weekend Dim Sum Brunch, Chef Yau together with Chef Sam Lu have curated a special menu of signature items which diners can order from. It’s based on “All You Can Eat” so there’s no limit to the number of orders. And the good thing is that most of the items (besides the appetizers and some desserts) on that list are only cooked upon order, ensuring that the food served are all freshly cooked.
The appetizers and some of the dessert items are laid out on a buffet counter and the selections change every weekend. On my visit, there were Chilled Prawns with Green Chilli Sauce and Atlantic Crab Meat with Green Salad.

Steamed Phoenix Claws with Nyonya Sauce – please have this as the nyonya sauce made this dish very different and delicious!

From the a la minute kitchen, we ordered several dishes that were cooked by Chef Sam Lu: Stir-fried Kwayteow with Clams and repeated orders of Stir-fry Kailan! The vegetables were really good. We also had the Asari Clam & Ginger Congee and Yong Tau Fu from the live stations.
Desserts are also laid out at the buffet counter. My favourite is Ti Chen’s signature Tau Fu Hua – it’s topnotch and something that should NOT be missed. The silky smooth texture is beyond good, believe me. I think I had 3 servings of this!
Oh, did I mention that every diner gets a complimentary bowl of Braised Eight Treasures with Atlantic Crabmeat Soup with this dim sum meal? It’s so delicious I wished they’d give more than one bowl!
