Indulge in HANA DINING’s WEEKEND BUFFET @ Sunway Pyramid!

I’m not a fan of buffets, unless they are of the Japanese cuisine type.  I’m sure many of you share the same sentiments – a Japanese buffet can be rather hard to resist!  Now there’s another reason to stuff our faces because Hana Dining lays out a sumptuous spread come Saturday and Sunday.

Yes, the weekend is just the perfect time to round up some Japanese food lovers in your circle and head out to Hana Dining in Sunway Pyramid.  The buffet is available for both lunch and dinner at:

Dinner:  6.30pm -10.30pm @ RM79 per person

There are more than 80 items on the buffet menu and for the price paid, you even get a once-only serving of fresh Pacific Oysters (2 pieces per person) and one serving of their House Special Dish for the day.

Are drinks included?  Oh yes!  Take your pick from green tea, iced Lemon tea, Americano coffee, latte, cappuccino and hot/cold chocolate!

Now, just to give you an idea of what’s on the eat-all-you-can menu, check these out…

Sashimi – good selections of salmon, tuna, butterfish, amberjack (kampachi) & octopus

Sushi – Salmon Aburi

Maki – Cheese Maki

The “appetisers” selection is wide and varied.  Honestly, to me every dish seemed to be an appetiser – maybe because they are served in manageable dainty portions.  I tried to try almost every dish in the various categories but failed, simply because there was so many items to choose from!  So we just zoomed in to our favourites…

Makimono – Appetisers

Seafood Skewers with Shisho Sauce

Roasted Miso Cod Fish

Olic Tuna – so good that we had repeated servings!

Softshell Crab Tapas

Temaki – Handrolls

Flounder Fin (Engawa), California, Prawn Tempura (Ebiten)

Yakimono

Salmon Head

Chicken & Leek Skewer

Shishamo – perfectly grilled!

Mussels Mentai Mayo

Besides the usual Ice Cream with matcha and goma flavours and tofu cheesecake, my favourite is the Raindrop Jelly.  I must have eaten 4 pieces of this wobbly clear jelly showered with green bean powder,  It’s just so so good – coming from a jelly lover, of course!

Ice Cream – matcha? goma?

Raindrop Jelly

GENJI @ Hilton Petaling Jaya – see what’s new?

After its recent renovation, the newly refurbished Genji in Hilton Petaling Jaya breathes a new refreshing touch to its modern Japanese decor. It’s certainly brighter, looks more spacious and airier than before. The same light wood theme runs across the restaurant but now with some new items added, Genji exudes a contemporary elegant charm which makes dining here a much more enjoyable experience now. Using a “modern Japanese country restaurant” concept, the spacious and comfortable dining area can accommodate 148 diners.

Diners looking for privacy can opt for the 6 private tatami rooms in Genji. They’ve all been outfitted with comfortable seating against a backdrop of Japanese drawings on the walls. Other sections of the restaurant include the tea lounge, sushi bar, main restaurant and 2 spacious teppanyaki counters.

Head Chef Richard Teoh and his team continue to pamper diners with their wide variety of offerings. From freshly-prepared Sushi & Sashimi, multi-course Kaiseki meals, Teriyaki, Tempura, Teppanyaki and Sukiyaki, fans of Japanese cuisine would be spoilt for choice.

The Sushi Bar is one of Genji’s main attractions – this is where diners can just sit back and enjoy the amazing delicate hand skills of the sushi chefs.

Appetizers

Recently we had a taste of Chef Richard Teoh’s new items on their a la carte menu. These were introduced in line with the new look of Genji. From the Appetizers, we tasted:

Niku To Negimaki Furai

Niku To Negimaki Furai – Deep-fried Breaded Sliced Beef rolled with spring onions and serve with Tonkatsu Sauce

Age Nasu Momiji Oroshi

Morokyu

Morokyu – fresh cucumber served with Moromiso

Chef Richard Teoh’s forte is “traditional modern” as far as his culinary direction goes. He uses distinct Japanese ingredients and craft them with the best of modern Japanese techniques. So, while his dishes may appear simple, the tastes and textures have been honed to the best, reflecting authentic Japanese fares.

We totally enjoyed the salads we had. The crunchy bean sprouts used in the Moyashi was something different and the California Salad was generously loaded with cubes of sweet succulent salmon and tuna. Soft creamy avocado and crunchy strips of fried crabstick gave it a nice contrast in terms of texture.

Shake Kabuto Miso

Shake Kabuto Miso – Miso Soup with Salmon Head, tasty to the last drop!

Choices for Main Courses are varied, we tasted a few and are glad to say that all were good. If I have to pick 2 favorites, then those 2 would be the Baked Fresh Oyster with Spicy Mayo (love the chilli here!) and the Jumbo Ebi Maki with generous fillings of tiger prawn tempura, caviar, salad and cucumber!
