SAMIRA By Asian Terrace: Tantalising Thai-Indochinese Delights

Nestled in the green haven of Sentul Park, Samira by Asian Terrace holds court grandly, with its lush landscape of graceful trees and plants bending over a calm pond where colourful kois play hide and seek endlessly. The restaurant with its warm pretty lights and cosy wooden structure blends perfectly with the peaceful surroundings. Entering this cool green space, I can’t help but feel that I’m in some magical tropical garden instead of being right smack in KL city!

The main entrance

So peaceful and tranquil…

Resonating a comforting rustic theme, the sprawling restaurant exudes a calm and peaceful ambience. Every spot the eyes rest on, it’s always a lovely picture of greenery, water and I even spotted a kingfisher perched on a hanging branch right above the pond!

Beautiful view…

Having settled ourselves at our table facing the pond, we were recommended the Chef’s latest signature dishes. This being the Chinese New Year period, we started off with their Thai Yee Sang with Norwegian Salmon. Quite unlike the traditional Chinese version, Samira’s rendition comprises a combination of fresh and pickled vegetables, fried crunchies, fried beancurd cubes and a slightly spicy, sweet and tangy dressing. It’s certainly very refreshing with an appetizing Thai slant to it! Besides salmon, there’s another version served with jellyfish. Yee Sang is available till 2 March 2018.

So photogenic!

Huge plump NZ green mussels topped with fragrant lemongrass salad and other Thai herbs are hard to resist. The piquant salad balances out any strong marine tastes in the shellfish.

Mieng Kam has always been a favourite of mine and at Samira, it’s presented in a rather unique way, featuring deep-fried soft shell crabs. I must say this is really the most deluxe form of Mieng Kam I’ve ever had!

We also enjoyed the deep-fried river lobster served with a crispy yam nest and cashew nuts.

Crunchy sweet river lobster!

On the other hand, I found the creamy coconut sauce in the steamed seabass was a a bit too rich and overwhelmed the fish.

The roast duck cooked in green curry with lychees is definitely a Thai dish and executed well. The curry spices are well balanced and cooked in the right consistency.

Desserts were my favourites here, too… just look …

Be prepared to spend a couple of hours for your meal here – the lovely scenery all around just demands that! Service is attentive and courteous and there’s plenty of parking space.
